About the event

Come join us for playful EMDR this April with Heather! Prior training in basic EMDR is required to take this training. This is an APT event by “APT Approved Provider 98-036”
Children and adolescents exposed to trauma often lack the verbal and cognitive capacity to process traumatic experiences through traditional talk therapy alone. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and play therapy are evidence-based, developmentally responsive approaches that address trauma through experiential, relational, and neurobiological pathways. When integrated intentionally, these modalities support adaptive trauma processing while honoring the developmental needs of young clients.
Participants will learn how play therapy naturally supports EMDR’s eight phases, particularly preparation, assessment, desensitization, and installation. Emphasis is placed on developmentally appropriate adaptations including play-based resourcing, bilateral stimulation through toys and movement, storytelling, sand tray, expressive arts, and symbolic processing. Cultural and diversity considerations will be addressed throughout the presentation as well.
